Hey everyone, it's time for the launch of the latest budget-friendly 5G phone in India – the POCO M6 5G. This device not only comes equipped with 5G capabilities but also falls below the Rs 10,000 mark. In fact, the effective price is expected to be around Rs 9-9.5K. What sets it apart is its exceptional performance, making it possibly the top-performing smartphone in this price category.
The phone has a large and flat design, yet surprisingly lightweight. Despite its size, it doesn't give off a heavy appearance. Additionally, it comes with a SIM card tool and necessary documentation.
Although the phone is capable of supporting 18W charging, you'll find a smaller 10W charger included in the box. The package also includes a USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable. With that covered, let's set those aside and focus on the phone itself. It boasts a glossy and shiny exterior!
POCO refers to it as the Sky Dance Design, and personally, I find it quite appealing! The shiny finish is likely to be well-received by many. The phone features a shimmery design that enhances its overall aesthetic appeal. Notably, the black camera module stands out and extends seamlessly with the POCO branding. In low light conditions, various colors become visible. Now, let's shift our focus to the weight – considering its size, it's indeed a substantial device.
It weighs approximately 195g. In the current landscape, where phones are getting increasingly heavier, the 190g range is now considered relatively light. Specifically, it tips the scales at 196.7g. I seem to have deviated a bit; I used to be more accurate, typically within a 1-2g range.
Examining the ports and buttons arrangement, the bottom section features a microphone, USB Type-C port, and a speaker grill. On the left side, you'll find the SIM card tray and a 3.5mm jack, while the right side houses the volume rocker and power on-off button. It's worth noting the presence of a dedicated SD card slot within the triple card slot.
However, there's no noise-canceling microphone situated on the top, so it's essential to be mindful of that. Furthermore, the device exclusively sports a 3.5mm jack. Remarkably, for a smartphone priced under Rs 10K, it stands out as one of the few that comes equipped with Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
Moving on to the internal features, let's dive into the display. The device boasts a 6.74-inch HD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits brightness. Notably, it holds two TÜV Rheinland certifications for Flicker-Free and Blue Light. In terms of bezels, they lean slightly towards the larger side, and there's a waterdrop notch.
Now, exploring the specifications, it runs on the 6100+ processor, delivering an impressive AnTuTu score of over 4 lakhs. This score is typically associated with phones in the Rs 15-18K price range, but this sub-Rs 10K device offers excellent performance. The base variant includes 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, featuring LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.
Powering the device is a 5000mAh battery with 18W charging support, although the provided adapter is 10W. Three variants are available with 4GB RAM + 128GB storage, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 256GB storage.
As mentioned earlier, the effective price is around Rs 9500, and the performance is commendable. The phone handles HD high settings smoothly, making it suitable for gaming experiences like COD Mobile and BGMI. The large and high-quality IPS LCD display ensures a decent gaming experience without any issues. It's an optimized iteration of the Dimensity 810 processor.
In terms of gaming and performance, this phone stands out as exceptionally good. However, it's worth noting that it lacks a gyroscope among its sensors, although it does include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock. On the connectivity front, it supports 7 5G bands, covering all bands in India, and comes with dual 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling capabilities. Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi are also part of its connectivity features.
When it comes to multimedia, the phone impresses with Widevine L1 certification, enabling Full HD streaming on platforms like Netflix. The down-firing mono speakers deliver loud and good-quality audio, enhancing the multimedia experience, especially considering the large screen and Widevine L1 support.
The operating system user interface is based on MIUI 14, built on Android 13. Users can expect 2 years of major updates along with 3 years of security updates. While there's no out-of-the-box HyperOS, it's assured that users will receive it. Pre-installed games are included, alongside apps, and users can uninstall games like Bubble Shooter if desired. The device supports virtual RAM, and the RAM variant remains consistent.
An additional positive aspect is the inclusion of a MIUI dialer, providing the flexibility to record calls without being restricted to the Google dialer.
Moving on to the camera setup, it features a dual setup with a 50MP primary sensor and an AI sensor. The front-facing selfie camera comes with a 5MP sensor. In regular lighting conditions, the 50MP primary sensor captures impressive photos.
In summary, the camera is decent, considering the price point under Rs 10K. It falls within the category of an average camera setup.
As for features, there's a variety to explore. The phone offers a timelapse mode and a video mode, supporting 1080p recording at 30FPS. Additionally, there's a night mode for low-light conditions, and the 50MP native camera allows for high-resolution photo capture. The inclusion of 7 film filters adds a creative touch to your photography.
If you're on a tight budget, seeking a gaming phone with commendable performance, and desiring 5G connectivity, the POCO M6 5G is worth considering. With both 5G capabilities and an AnTuTu score exceeding 4 lakhs, all at a price of around Rs 9500, it offers a compelling package. Overall, it stands out as a well-rounded performer in the sub-10K price range.
